More news from Lofthouse 2000 Brass Band
In October 2013 Lofthouse 2000 Brass Band were approached by BBC Radio Leeds and asked to feature in this year’s BBC carol service.
The service took place at St Giles Church in the picturesque town of Pontefract on Tuesday 3rd December and featured St Giles Church Choir, The Featherstone Male Voice Choir and Lofthouse 2000 Brass Band. Familiar voices of BBC Radio presenters such as Andrew Edwards, Georgey Spanswick, Wes Butters, Johnny I’Anson and Tim Crowther were also heard performing readings throughout the service.
James Whitaker, the band’s principal cornet commented: ‘It was a great thing for the band to take part in. We have worked quite closely with BBC Leeds in the last quarter of 2013, featuring quite heavily in their ‘Week of Brass’ with numerous members of the band taking part in radio interviews and also taking part in the flash mob on Briggate in Leeds. We are all looking forward to hearing the performance back on Christmas Eve (and again on Christmas Day, whilst tucking into our turkeys) and want to thank everyone at the BBC for getting us involved and the publicity they have also given us in the past months.'
Tune in to BBC Radio Leeds, 92.4FM on Christmas Eve at 6pm, then again at 12noon on Christmas day to hear the carol service in full!
Programme:
Shepherd’s Pipe Carol (arr. Graham)
Rocking Carol, cornet soloist James Whitaker (arr. Fernie)
