On Saturday 21st December 2013 Lofthouse Brass Band and Lofthouse B Band held their annual band awards.
The B Band most improved player award was split between two players, Emily Fawthrop (solo horn) and Emily Sugget (1st baritone). B Band MD Jayne Richardson commented ‘both of these players have made fantastic progress over the past year. Emily (baritone) has come up from the beginner band and is now a strong B band player, she works hard and puts in lot of work. The other Emily (horn) has also made a fantastic improvement. She not only plays with the B band, but also helps out the beginner and has even played with the senior band in the flash mob earlier on in the year and also sits in sometimes at their rehearsals! Well done to both players and thank you for their hard work over the year’.
The senior band ‘most improved player’ awarded by MD Andrew Whitaker, went to 3rd cornet player Ruth Fawthrop in recognition of her outstanding progress over the past 12 months, whilst the Euphonium and Baritone section, headed up by Rob Blackburn took the ‘Section of the Year’ award.
The band’s committee also select their ‘Band Person of the year’. This award is for the player who they feel has not only played well throughout the year, but also gone that extra mile. This award was given to James Austerfield for his outstanding commitment and hard work that he does for the band outside of the rehearsal room. James also took the' player’s play of the year’ award (chosen by the band members). A big well done to James!
A big thank you also went to Bob Hick who has helped the band out on solo cornet over the past year.
