More news from St Austell Town Band
St Austell Town Band have made four new signings ahead of the Area Contest at Torquay. The percussion section has been boosted with the addition of Steve Hicks and Lauren Iliff. Steve previously played with the St Austell Band but moved away for study & work. In October 2013 he returned to Cornwall and the band are delighted to see him back in the bandroom. Lauren joined the St Austell Youth Band in January of this year and was soon invited along to the Senior Band. Lauren had never played in a brass band before this year but has settled in very quickly and is looking forward to making her brass band contest debut on Saturday 8th March.
In addition to these signings the band are delighted to announce that youth band member, Jacca Congdon, has transfered from Bugle Band to be a full time member of the St Austell Town Band Bass section. Jacca has progressed through the St Austell Band School of Brass, and gained further experience during his time with Bugle Silver Band. In October Jacca was part of the CBBA Contest "Best Bass Section" which was awarded to the St Austell Youth Band Basses. He is now looking forward to working with tuba expert, Steve Sykes, who will be conducting the St Austell Band at the Area Contest.
Finally the St Austell Band welcome back Damian Johns who has joined on 3rd cornet. Damian played with St Austell Youth and Senior Band back in the 90s. The signing of Damian has led to Youth Band member, Laura Welsh, gaining promotion to 2nd Cornet. Welcome to all the new players & thanks to Matt Rowe who has moved from Tenor trombone to Bass trombone ahead of the contest.
