At the recent Cornwall Brass Band Association annual competition held in Falmouth, St Austell Youth Bands Basses won the prize for best Basses against more senior bands. The band gave a wonderful performance of Saddleworth Festival overture by the sadly missed Cornish composer Goff Richards to gain the band 2nd place in the Youth Section.
Mark Arnold, the band’s Musical Director said “The band are improving every week and it’s great to be competing as an established Youth band. It’s fantastic that the band won the Best Bass section prize against other Second and First Section Bands”
The St Austell School of Brass (of which the Youth Band is a part) is ever increasing but would love to hear from you if you would like to join this expanding organisation. The School of Brass offers free instrumental and theory tuition to all its members and encourages pupils to progress through grade exams.
David Mumford directs the Beginners' Band where players are able to learn early ensemble skills before progressing to the Youth Band.
Mark Arnold (former Grimethorpe percussionist) conducts the Youth band, who rehearse each Saturday morning, 10 till 12
