The 76 young musicians of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band will be spending 4 days of their Christmas holidays rehearsing under the Baton of Guest Conductor Richard Evans at their Residential Course at the Truro High for Girls. The doyen of brass band Conductors, Richard is at present conducting and coaching bands in Japan, before travelling to Cornwall after a short Christmas break, to make a welcome return to the Band he last conducted in 2010.
The Band will also be joined as Guest Soloist by Owen Farr, Principal Tenor Horn of the Cory Band, the present European, National and Brass in Concert Champions, for seven years graded as the Top Brass Band in the World. He will coaching the young players, giving a Recital and Master Class and playing with them at their Gala Concert at St Michael’s Church in Newquay on December 30th. Among his Solo’s will be a new work written for him by a former member of the Band, Christopher Bond from Camborne, at present studying at The Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff.
The young musicians of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, whose ages range from 10 to 21 have been working on the music for the Course at monthly Rehearsals at Truro College with their resident Conductors, Alan Pope, Aaron Harvey and Jeremy Willcock and their team of local Tutors.
