Blaenavon Town Band are excited to announce the appointment of our new Musical Director, Lynne Turner.

Lynne will be taking up the position of MD in time for the Fishguard competition.

Lynne started playing the Tenor Horn under the direction of Mal Guy and Alan Gibbs in Mid Rhondda. Whilst in school, Lynne received lessons from Gareth Keys. Upon completing her studies at Salford University where she studied with Gordon Higginbottom and Sandy Smith, she returned to Wales via a long spell in Germany and Yorkshire.

Lynne played with Rochdale Band, BT band, Brass Band Limburg, Pennine Brass and the Cory Band winning the British Open in 2007. After a few years off from playing, following the birth of her daughter, she joined Pontypool Brass Band, Tata Band and most recently, Llwydcoed!

Lynne has recently conducted Crwbin Band from West Wales alongside husband Chris.

Lynne Turner commented that she is looking forward to working with the band towards the competition at Fishguard and has already been impressed by the hard work that players put in during rehearsals.

Chair Lucinda Gough said:

'We are so pleased to welcome Lynne to the band as the new MD and look forward to working together. After an unsettled few months, Lynne's enthusiasm and experience has come at a perfect time for our band; we are now focused on entering the next competition at Fishguard with a renewed sense of excitement.'

We would like to thank everyone who auditioned and wish each applicant every success in their conducting career.

The band would also like to extend their gratitude to David Langley who took on the role as MD for the summer period. David has played in the band since a very young age, and has matured into a professional music graduate and teacher. David continues to play BBb bass for Blaenavon, as well as conducting orchestras and ensembles throughout South Wales.

David will hand over the baton to Lynne Turner following the spectacular community concert at Blaenavon Ironworks this Saturday!
