Leyland Band has begun the new calendar year with the appointment of Huw Thomas as their new musical director.
On the announcement of his new role Huw said : “I am delighted to have been appointed as Musical Director of Leyland Band. Their professionalism and commitment is second to none and I believe this is the opening of a new chapter in the success story of this world famous band.”
The former Fishburn MD will begin the role with immediate effect, his first engagement being on home ground in St Andrew’s Church, Leyland on the 30th January and he will also work closely with Professional Conductor, Michael Bach as the band look to complete a historic hat – trick of victories at the North West area in March.
Leyland Band Chairman explained how Huw really was the leading candidate, adding: “ I am very pleased to announce Huw’s appointment as our new Musical Director. We saw a number of people in our search for the right person to lead the musical development of the band and Huw was the stand- out candidate, impressing the overwhelming majority of the players with his amiable but productive approach. We are all very much looking forward to working with him over the coming months and years.”
The band is also excited to welcome Matt Denney on bass trombone. Currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, under the tutorship of Adrian Morris and Simon Cowan, Matt joins the band from the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Iain McKnight added: “With the addition of Matt to our team we can look forward to what will hopefully be another successful year in Leyland Band’s history.”
