The musicians of the town’s Brass Band, Great Yarmouth Brass are now making the final preparations for a special concert in the magnificent setting of the Great Yarmouth Minster on the evening of 6th July in celebration of their 40th Anniversary. Beginning life as a School band in 1973 assisted by Brass Teacher Derek Hacon and under the direction of former teacher at The East Anglian School in Gorleston, Colin Godfrey, the band has now grown to become one of the leading amateur music making organisations in the area, attracting ever increasing audiences enjoying a wide range of music, from the classics, to film music and popular concert music.
With contest success this year at the London and Southern Counties Regional Championships under the direction of their current Musical Director Colin Swaep, the band is also looking forward to representing the town of Great Yarmouth at the National Brass Band finals in Cheltenham this September.
There will be plenty of memorabilia and photographs from the last 40 years on display at the concert, starting at 7.30 p.m. and you can purchase tickets by telephone to the Secretary of the Band on 01493 844242 or securely online at www.gybrass.org.uk for just £4.50 each.
