Foss Dyke Band are delighted to announce the appointment of their new Musical Director, Colum O'Shea.
Colum was selected by the whole band from a field of 6 applicants and the band and committee would like to thank all the applicants for their interest in this vacancy.
Colum has been involved with brass bands all his life; most recently Blidworth Welfare Band where he spent the last 8 years as a cornet player. Colum has gone from strength to strength with the band moving through to the Championship section in 2015 after starting in the second section of banding. Colum has also been Musical Director for the last 3 years at Newark and Sherwood Concert Band, which, along with Colum’s guidance, has increased player numbers, number of concerts and popularity of the band in his time there.
On accepting the position Colum said, ' I am really looking forward to taking on my first appointment as Musical Director. Foss Dyke Band is a great organisation of people with a good local following that I hope to develop within my time at the band. I am grateful to the support of my family, and also to friends both inside and outside of the banding world who have encouraged me as I have worked towards achieving this position and hope my efforts as a Musical Director will not go unrewarded'.
The band look forward to working together with Colum to strengthen player numbers and to compete at Bolsover and Leicester contests later in the year, to help build up to a successful contesting year in 2017 and beyond.
