The European Festival of Brass 2014
Presented by The Scottish Brass Band Association The European Festival of Brass 2014 is a Scotland-wide celebration of brass music which will engage bands and communities across the country from 26th April - 11th May 2014. The festival incorporates a number of featured European events which will be hosted at Perth Concert Hall, including the 6th European Soloist Competition for Brass and Percussion Instruments, The 2014 European Brass Band Championships, The European Youth Brass Band Contest and two Gala Concerts. The festival as a whole will be the world’s largest celebration of brass music of its kind and the key events held at Perth Concert Hall from 1st – 4th May offer a unique opportunity to enjoy an extensive and varied series of events in this exciting showcase of brass bands and brass music, performed by virtuosic musicians from Scotland and other European countries.
Gala Concert and Final of the 6th European Soloist Competition for Brass & Percussion Instruments

The first of the festival’s gala concerts, including the collective talents of the finalists of the 6th European Solo Championships. Accompanied by The Kirkintilloch Band, the selected finalists will offer their enthralling performances to compete for this most prestigious soloist’s title. To complete this stunning introduction to the festival’s celebration of brass music, The 2014 European Youth Brass Band (comprising of the leading youth brass and percussion musicians from across Europe) will feature in the 2nd half of the evening’s music-making, prior to the announcement of The 6th European Solo Champion.

2014 European Brass Band Championships – Set Work

A musical feast of brass band music as a stunning collection of Europe’s finest brass bands each perform a set work, written by renowned Scottish composer Rory Boyle and specially commissioned for the event. This is the first round of the 2014 European Brass Band Championships and offers an exciting insight to the outstanding musicianship that is available throughout Europe, including Scotland’s own representative, The Whitburn Band.

2014 European Brass Band Championships – B Section Set Work and Championship Section Own Choice

A full day of brass band music is on offer. To start the day, a fine collection of Europe’s B Section bands take to the stage to perform a set work, written by young talented Scottish writer Josiah Walters and specially commissioned for the event, to compete for their own prestigious European title. This is then followed by the return of the Europe’s premier bands to perform their own choice test pieces for the final round of the 2014 European Championships. The day offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy a variety of music from a wide range of composers, performed by Europe’s finest bands.

A showcase of outstanding brass band musicianship and virtuosic talent. This very special evening offers a true festival celebration, presenting an eclectic mix of music with featured performances from the world-renowned Cory Band (winners of the 2013 European Brass Band Championships) and the outstanding talents of The 2014 European Youth Brass Band. With a Scottish flavour to this flagship event, as well as a variety of special guest performances and the announcement of the the 2014 European Brass Band Champions, the evening offers a rare opportunity to enjoy the diversity and excitement of brass music all encapsulated into a single event.

European Youth Brass Band Contest

An exciting new youth brass band contest which opens its doors to some of the top youth bands across Europe. As hosts of this inaugural event, the 2014 European Youth Brass Band Contest offers clear testament to Scotland’s on-going commitment to youth music development, and with each band performing their own choice of music, the event offers the audience an important insight to the thrill of brass band music which is shared by so many of the younger generation across Europe.
