2016 has seen St Austell Town Band appoint a new Musical Director; Simon Badge, who is currently serving in Her Majesty's Royal Marines, officially took up the post as Musical Director in January and has been working alongside Steve Sykes in preparation for the Area Contest. Simon has been fortunate enough to study Conducting and Band Leadership under the direction of Dr. Laszlo Marosi, the principle conductor of the Florida State University Orchestra and Guy Woolfenden QBE, the head professor of conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music. St Austell Town Band enjoyed the energy and drive from the rehearsals and concerts that Simon took at the latter part of 2015 when he helped the band out, and were delighted when he agreed to take up the position full time.

In addition to Simon's appointment the band have been delighted to welcome new faces to the playing line-up. To the cornet section we welcome Grace Thomas, Joanne Cullen, Ian Nicholls, and Sarah Wilton. Kate Waller & Jason Wilton have joined the horn section, and completing the line-up we welcome Megan Thomas on Bass Trombone and Dave Coad on EEb Bass.
