The European Brass Band Association (EBBA) has revealed the Championship Section line-up for this year’s European Brass Band Championships, taking place at Perth Concert Hall on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 May.
The full list of competing bands for the Championships Section is:
Austrian Brass Band of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Professor Uwe Köller) - Austria
Black Dyke (Dr. Nicholas Childs) - England
Brass Band Bürgermusik Luzern (Michael Bach) - Switzerland
Brass Band Schoonhoven (Erik Janssen) - Netherlands
Brass Band Willebroek (Frans Violet) - Belgium
Concord Brass Band (Dennis Andersen) - Denmark
Cory (Philip Harper) - Wales (defending champion)
Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag (Professor David King) - Norway
Paris Brass Band (Florent Didier) - France
Tongwynlais Temperance (Steve Sykes) - Wales
Whitburn (Ian Porthouse) - Scotland
EBBA General Secretary Carsten Hering Nielsen commented: “Once again we have a very impressive line-up for the European Championships. With four previous champions in Black Dyke, Cory, Eikanger-Bjørsvik and Willebroek and other strong contenders in the past like those from The Netherlands, Scotland and Switzerland, it is sure to be an extremely close competition.
We will also welcome for the first time at this level former B Section winner Austrian Brass Band of the University of Graz, under the baton of Professor Uwe Köller. With the exception of Welsh champion Tongwynlais Temperance, all the bands have previously played at the European Championships at some level. Brass Band Bürgermusik Luzern last performed in 2004, when the event was last held in Scotland, while it will be the Scottish champion and former ‘European’ runner-up Whitburn’s first appearance in five years.
As the centrepiece of a week-long festival of the best of European banding, the Championship promises to be one of the best we have ever presented and we are sure that the many visitors expected in Perth will not be disappointed.”
