The sad news has been announced that former Black Dyke and Fairey Band BBb legend Derek Jackson has passed away after a short ilness

Born in Poulton Le Flyde, Derek was the man who developed BBb Bass playing into a true art form.

Derek was one of most decorated BBb Player by way of contest wins, in a banding life that took him to Black Dyke Mills Juniors in 1961 moving up to the seniors in 1964. Then to Williams Fairey in 1992 until his semi retirement nine years later.

Some of the tributes have been left about Derek:

The Fairy Band: " Derek, as well as performing as a member of many bands, created somewhat of a contesting legacy playing with the Fairey Band, and will be sorely missed by all. RIP Mr Jackson."

Black Dyke Band: "Terribly sad to hear of the passing of a passed Dyke member Mr Derek Jackson. RIP Sir, and thank you for your lifetime commitment to banding.
