Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band, one of the oldest in the UK, is delighted to announce that it has appointed a new Musical Director, Gordon Clough. Gordon will take up the reins from 8th September. As an accomplished trombone player, he played with bands such Haigh, Wingates, and Leyland; he has also played with Kings of Brass. He began his conducting career with the Darwen band, who progressed from fourth section to top section in six years. Then he had spells at Freckleton and Dallmelington, and has also won the first section finals with Longridge in Cardiff.
The band is also pleased to announce that the retiring MD, Allan Greenwood will remain involved with the Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Academy which is being launched in September. Allan’s joined the band in December 1978 and has led the band to success not only in national and local competitions but also at numerous community events. The band’s business manager, Ken Talbot, said “Allan will be a difficult act to follow and the band members are all very grateful for his hard work and commitment over the years”.
