The band have been crowned section champions for the 3rd time. The band had to perfom Dean Jones’ An English Pastorale to adjudicators Mike Kilroy & John Doyle at the Nicholas Chamberlaine School in Bedworth. The band were drawn first out of 19 bands and put in a remarkable performance considering all the problems we faced in our final week of preparation – illness, family illnesses and roadworks all played a part in making us really wonder if we were going to even have a band for Sunday morning. The adjudicators remarks are glowing, though one concluding remark says it all “a performance which made me smile from start to finish”. Many thanks to Mark Phillips who has done such a great job in preparing the band and especially to all of our players who have put in such a terrific amount of time and effort in the last couple of months. Not only have the band been preparing for the contest but have also recorded a new CD to celebrate our 20th anniversary. It should be available from the end of May.
CSB will now represent the Midlands in the National finals held on September 19th in Cheltenham.
Being the champion band has caused a bit of a media frenzy. First we managed to get our win mentioned on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Monday 9th March. Chris said well done to the band in his ‘smug zone’ feature. Our secretary was then interviewed over the phone by Iwan Fox from 4barsrest.com for his report on the Midlands championship.
