After 13 enjoyable years as Secretary to The Council of West of England Brass Band Associations, Brian Elliott officially retired from that role at the Council's Annual Meeting on Saturday 14th September 2013.
Speaking to Empty Chairs, Brian wished to thank all Council members, past and present, all the West of England band secretaries and musical directors, the many Traders who exhibit at the Championships, the band press, in fact, everybody Brian has come into contact with over those 13 years, for making, possibly, the most difficult, but interesting, job in the band world, such a wonderful experience and one he has thoroughly enjoyed.
Brian's concluding statement in his last annual report to Council was "When you go measuring a man's success, don't count money - count happiness" (attributed to Ken Dodd). From Brian and his wife Joyce, "THANK YOU".
The newly appointed Secretary to The Council is Sue Oldfield, and may be contacted on 01392 272048/07768 973095 or by email oldfieldi.s@blueyonder.co.uk.
Brian added: "Best Wishes to Sue who will serve not only Council but all bands with her cheerfulness and professional attributes.?"
The Council has re-elected Frances Calver (chairman); Michael Knapton (treasurer); and Vivian Willcock (registrar).
