It's that time of year when rumours are rife with suggestions for the Regional Qualifiers next year. To wet your appetite here's a run down of some of the test pieces rumoured for the Areas 2014.

Championship Section
A few pieces have been mentioned as possibilities for the top section including Philip Sparke's 'Music for Battle Creek' and Arthur Butterworth's 'Odin'. The odds on favourite however is St. Magnus by Kenneth Downie.
First Section
Among the rumours mentioned are 'A London Overture', Philip Sparke and 'A Kensington Concerto' by Eric Ball. Our money is on the splendid Philip Sparke piece for this section!
Second Section
The underused 'Rhapsody for Brass Band' by Peter Cabus and Gilbert Vinter's Triumphant Rhapsody and both mooted as being in the running for this section. If it's one of these two we think it will be...
Third Section
There's no been many rumours for the third section. Only one piece has been mentioned, written by Ludwig van Beethoven 'Egmont' arranged Eric Ball.
Fourth Section
Rumours abound for the fourth section including another Gilbert Vinter piece, "Vizcaya"; "Snowdon Fantasy" by Thomas James Powell and "Partita" by Edward Gregson. It's a hard call for this section and we think either Vizcaya or Partita are likely winners. And on balance and the circumstantial evidence we're going to go with...
All this could of course be wrong as we await the official announced and release of the Regionals 2014 CD towards the end of September.
