Inspired by the charitable fund raising achieved by a group call “Boobs & Brass”, a brass band made up of ladies from all over the UK, Jan Tiller, a long time member of Verwood Concert Brass thought that with so many ladies in Verwood Concert Brass they could do something similar.
So Verwood Concert Brass' very own all female band “Blushing Brass” was created made up of 32 ladies from the Training, Band A Bands along with a few friends associated with VCB playing in support.
On the 22nd June after a full day rehearsing and preparing the charity concert was performed with the ladies and the venue bedecked in pink. The audience were treated to a wonderful programme of music whilst having waiters served refreshments at their tables.
Renowned brass band composer Derek Broadbent (of “The Floral Dance” fame) composed a piece especially for the Blushing Brass event called “Easy on the Eye, Easy on the Ear” which received its premier during the performance.
The event was generously supported by local businesses and individuals through donation of raffle prizes and sponsorship of music and tables. All in all an incredible £1,662 was raised for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and band funds.
Will Blushing Brass be performing again? Nothing is confirmed as yet but how can it not?
