A busy 6 months starts this coming weekend with the Weston-Super-Mare Annual Own Choice Contest at the town’s Winter Gardens on Sunday 18 May commencing at 10.30am. The adjudicators will be Paul Cosh and Stan Lippeatt, with John Woods as contest administrator. Tickets available on the day from the box office.
The next event will be the Exmouth Brass Band Festival on Saturday 6th September when up to 15 bands will compete in the Entertainment Contest in The Exmouth Pavilion and then present fringe concerts throughout the day in the adjoining Gardens. The adjudicator will be Steve Walker (Festival Director of The Butlins Mineworkers Open Brass Band Festival). The closing date for entries is 12th July.
Later in the month, Saturday 27th September, Richard Marshall (Black Dyke Band) will lead a Cornet & Soprano Workshop at the Okehampton Conservative Club. A first class day of tuition for all cornet players (both front and back row) and all for £25 (18 years & under £15), all inclusive of tea/coffee throughout the day and lunch. The SWBBA acknowledges the kind support offered by BESSON (part of the Buffet Group Wind Instruments) and of Trevada Music Ltd. Closing date for applications to attend is 13 September.
The year ends with the 68th Annual Championships on Saturday 1st November at the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay. The schedule will be available shortly.
Looking forward to 2015, the year will commence as always with the ever popular Mid-Winter Brass Workshop. The date is Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February, again at the West Buckland School, near Barnstaple, North Devon. The tutors will be Paul Cosh, Chris Davis and Chris Jeans. The schedule will be available later this year.
