Aveley & Newham Band have announced the signing of Alex Gibson to their solo cornet bench from the Black Dyke Band.
Alex joins the band following a period of study at the Royal Northern Collage of Music, where he received tuition from Richard Marshall (Black Dyke Band) and Roger Webster (Grimethorpe Colliery Band).
During his time at Black Dyke Band Alex was featured as a soloist on the "Soloist Showcase" CD. He also had the opportunity to play 1st cornet in a six-piece ensemble run by the band called White River Brass, and appearing as a soloist on their latest CD "Brett Baker and Friends". Alex was principal cornet in the RNCM Brass Band prior to the culmination of his degree studies in the summer. Alex has a Salvation Army background, hailing from the Norwich Citadel Corps he now attends the Regent Hall centre in London, with his wife.
Alex will make his debut contest performance with Aveley & Newham at the Leicestershire Brass Band Association Contest in November.
A spokeman for the band said: "Naturally, we are chuffed to have him in the band and look forward to many happy times together."
