Pendeen Silver Band will be holding a special concert at St. Just Methodist Church on Friday September the 6th to support their percussionist Stephen Hatch as he prepares to travel toTanzania as part of the Church Mission Society.
Stephen is going to be spending a year in Tanzania during which time he will be teaching Maths and Science in a Charity School run by the local church which aims to give a chance of an education to those who would otherwise have nothing.
The trip is organised through the CMS (Church Mission Society - www.cms-uk.org) who help with contacts, support and training.
The concert will also include Soprano Hannah Pascoe singing both solo items and with the band. Hannah has recently appeared on BBC's The One Show as part of the Fishwives Choir – a group of fishermen's wives, daughters and mothers a 40-strong choir.
Stephen told Empty Chairs: "I need to fund this trip myself and so have to raise £5000. If you feel you are able to please come and support me at the concert. And then keep me in your prayers. I will be in a very different country with a very different culture to get used to and knowing I have support from back home will be important."
Stephen will be flying out to Tanzania on 15th October and this concert will be one of the last events he will participate with in Pendeen Band.
Musical Director Darren Jenkin commentated: "Over the last few years Stephen has been a tremendous asset in the band both playing and teaching the youngster the fine art of percussion playing. We will miss him and wish him all the best in this adventure. We hope to see him back in the band on his return with some fantastic stories to tell."
The concert is on September 6th at St. Just Methodist Church in Cornwall starting at 7:30pm. It will be a free concert with a retiring collection along with a raffle with all the proceeds going to support Stephen in his travels.
