Besses Boys hand out the gongs
Besses boys were delighted to host their first band awards evening. In change from previous years the band decided to change the format of their annual solo contest to create their first Awards night.
Held at the local Unsworth cricket club, the night was an event for both the main band and the Besses Boys youth band. Prizewinners on the night were
Youth band
Most improved Player - George Radford
Best Attendance - Josh Ryan
MD's player of the year - Toby Taylor
Most promising new recruit - Lucy Thomas
Main band
Best Attendance - George Lawryshyn
Most improved Player - Joel Rongong
Services to the band - Luke Taylor
Bands bands person of the year - Ben Corbridge
Most promising new recruit - Ellie Mead
Best section - Basses
Chairmans award - James Holt
The band were also delighted to present a new award this year. Every year the MD is asked to award their bandsperson of the year award.
It was decided in recognition of his continued service to the band that their should be an award named after MD James Holt. James has guided the band to several contest victories including consecutive area wins resulting in the bands current status as a 2nd section band. He has recently guided the band to victories at the Rochdale and Butlins contests.
The band were honoured to present the James Holt trophy for MDs bandsperson of the year with the inaugural winner being our Solo Euphonium player, Ben Corbridge
