Christmas Cheer at Silkstone’s Noel Fest
The “Very Merry Christmas Band” (aka Old Silkstone Band) entertained a packed out room at The Fairway, Dodworth in December. Santa’s elves gathered together to put on a lively and fun evening for everyone who came. The evening was hosted by chief Elf ‘Wonorse Openslay’ and the band was led by guest conductor Sam Fisher. The night featured several members from the band including a trombone playing turkey, with a Christmas tree on his head. The Musical Theatre Singers were also on hand to perform some Christmas classics with the band – including a rendition of Fairytale of New York, featuring the evening’s host Elf.
The band entertained with their high quality playing of the music, while the audience enjoyed themselves with games including: a giant pass the parcel (complete with treats and forfeits), a dance off (against a minion dressed as Santa) and building a snowman, as well as the usual participation of singing the audience were encouraged just to get up and enjoy themselves.
A spokesman for the band said “Everyone really enjoyed the night. We like to try and do something a little different so our concerts are remembered as fun nights, and something people will want to come along to again in the future. We have some more entertaining and fun events lined up for 2015 – so watch this space, but for now we are now turning our attentions to the more serious aspect with the Yorkshire area only really a few weeks away”.
