Paul Archibald's Brass Band Boot Camp offers a great opportunity to get you back to basics, iron out those bad habits, develop a regime of practice that improves your playing and help you deal with performance anxieties. It takes place in a comfortable, nurturing and safe environment, no intimidation, just practical help and an enjoyable time.

The tutors are established experts and, over a curry or a beer, will be able to answer specific questions about how you might improve your abilities.

Paul Archibald - cornet / soprano cornet

Paul's experience as a performer spans many genres including classical, contemporary, chamber, folk, film, brass band, pop and electronic music. As a principal player and soloist he has performed with many orchestras and ensembles and his teaching positions have the included the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music. His upbringing in the Salvation Army stimulated his passion for brass bands and he is currently Musical Director of Regent Brass, a championship section band based in London.

Vickie Curran - cornet / flugel horn

Vickie Curran is a founding member of the chamber quartet Bella Tromba and has been Flugel Horn with Regent Brass. She was recently awarded Best Soloist at the May 2013 Crawley SCABA Brass Band competition. She is Head of Brass for Richmond Music Trust and is the musical director of Richmond Youth Brass Band and Sapphire Brass.

Sheona White - tenor horn

Sheona was Junior Solo Champion of Scotland, Principal Horn of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and the first tenor horn player, first Scot and first female to be British Open Solo Champion. In 1998 she was selected as a finalist in the Cosmopolitan Women of Achievement Awards. With YBS she won the All England Masters 3 times, the British Open 4 times and representing England in the European EBBA festival on ten occasions, winning the European Championships eight times in the ten appearances. Sheona is a Yamaha Artist and is currently Principal Horn with Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

David Thornton - euphonium

David Thornton is regarded as one of the foremost euphonium players and teachers of his generation. His work as a soloist, conductor and educator is renowned throughout the brass playing world for his virtuosity, professionalism and ability to connect with audiences. In 2001 he was named as 'The International Euphonium Player Of The Year' and he is a Sterling Musical Instruments performing artist and consultant.

Emily White - trombone

Emily is a member of English Cornette and Sackbut Ensemble whose recordings have won the Gramophone Early Music Award, Diapaison D'Or and Classic FM disc of the month. She is a member of Chaconne Brass, has performed at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre since its opening in 1997 and appears with Academy of Ancient Music, Gabrieli Consort, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and English National Ballet. Her diverse career includes collaborating with Paul McCartney and appearing on Eastenders! Emily is visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire.

Edd Leech - tuba

Edd was the winner of the Newark Brass Festival Competition and his brass quintet, Toccata Brass, won the Worshipful Company of Musicians Brass Ensemble Competition. He has twice reached the finals of the British Open Solo competition and was the highest placed brass player in the Concerto Competition at the Royal Northern College of Music. Edward is a member of the Britten-Pears Orchestra and has played with the Gabrielli Consort and Players, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and English National Opera.

Andy Evans - performance psychologist

Andy Evans is a psychologist, writer and performing artist. He co-founded Arts Psychology Consultants in 1988, and this remains the leading Arts and Media psychology consultancy in Britain. He has pioneered performance psychology with over 500 arts clients over the last ten years, and is a frequent broadcaster and magazine contributor on showbiz and general arts and media subjects.
