After 5 ½ years at the helm, Simon Willis is relinquishing his role as Musical Director at Ibstock Brick Brass.
Simon first took to the contest stage with Ibstock at the Butlins competition in 2014 and in the following 5 years they have enjoyed several prize winning performances. The band were on the podium for 3 years running at the Bolsover contest, plus there have been prizes at the Leicester contest and this year, for the first time ever, at Butlins. The highlight though was undoubtedly winning the Midlands Area Second Section in 2016 with an excellent performance of The Mermaid of Zennor off the dreaded number 1 draw.
Speaking of his time with the band, Simon says “I am incredibly proud of the performances that we have given on both the contest platform and the concert stage. Ibstock is the first contesting band that I have conducted on an ongoing basis and it has been an excellent learning experience for me, I am very grateful for the opportunity that I have been given. I wish the band well for the future.”
Speaking on behalf of Ibstock Brick Brass, band manager Ian Partner told 4br “Simon took on the role at a very difficult time for the band and he has lead us with skill and professionalism. We would like to thank him for all that he has given to the band for the last 5 years and we wish him luck with his next challenge.”
The search for Simon’s replacement has already begun, but in the meantime he will lead the band for one final performance on the bandstand at Crossley Park, Ripley on Sunday 23rd June.
