Massed band farewell for David Loukes

It was standing room only at the Treswithian Downs Crematorium at Camborne for the Funeral of David Loukes on Saturday August 2nd. Prior to the Service a Band of over 30 musicians played a selection of pieces, including arrangements by David, under the Baton of Aaron Harvey, Musical Director of the St Austell Band.
The players represented many Bands within Cornwall including Camborne, Cornwall Youth Brass Band, Gweek, Heyl, Porthleven, Redruth, St Austell, St Dennis and St Keverne. Several individual players and former pupils of David also took part, including one from HM Royal Marines.
Bearers were Trevor Bedding, Chairman of the Cornwall Brass Band Association, as well as Marcus Dunstan, representing Camborne and the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, Alan and David Retallack from St Keverne and Ben and Jack Curnow from Helston.
During the Service Tributes were given by David’s children, Joanne and Stephen and by Phillip Hunt, Secretary of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band. For the Committal the Band played A Special Place by David’s friend and former colleague, Goff Richards.
