~~Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band are closing another successful year and a 3rd consecutive promotion to the 1st Section in 2015 with a few changes within the organisation.
The band has once again achieved a national finals appearance (for the 4th year in a row) and achieved promotion back to the 1st Section, a goal that they have had for 16 years after the band almost folded and had to stop contesting meaning they lost their 1st Section status and then had to work their way back up from the 4th Section, with at one point only 6 players in the band.
With success also comes some changes and the band would like to thank a few players who have left having given great commitment for a few years they are John Noon, Jeremy Newman, Paul Harding, Martin, Karen, Ellis, Lewis and Kelsey Squires. All these players have been an integral part of the band’s recent successes and the band wish them all well for the future.
We also say farewell to Graham and Paula Weighill, the band’s Chairman and Secretary respectively, who as non-players gave up a great deal of their time working behind the scenes and helping to create the band as you see it today. And for that the band will always be grateful.
Over the next month we will be announcing a host of new signings to the band whom we hope will help to achieve a creditable result in the 1st Section which for 85% of the band will be the first time they have competed at this level.
We would like to start by welcoming Gary Willis and Craig Bramford to the band who will be joining the Euphonium and Baritone line, having already impressed the band with the level of commitment and drive they have shown their previous bands and which we know they will show with us.
