“Exotic Sounding” and “Dark Horses” were just two of the names given to Indian Queens Band by recognised banding website 4barsrest.com, in their prediction of the results for the South West Area qualifications for the National Brass Championships.
Saturday 12th March 2016, saw Indian Queens Band head off to Torquay for the first time in 22 years hoping for a top 10 finish, following the success at Exmouth last year.
Under the baton of Mark Arnold the band was drawn 12th out of the 21 bands to play. They took to the stage and played their hearts out.
The band were on the edge of their seats as the results were read out, 6th and 5th place went, then 4th place was announced to the band playing 12th. Their cheers filled the room and they were delighted to be the top placed Cornish band in the fourth section unfortunately missing out on the trip to the National Finals in Cheltenham by one place.
Indian Queens Band is looking forwards to try to continue their success by competing at Bugle Contest in July and returning to Exmouth in September in the hunt to retain their titles. This will be alongside a very busy summer session which will see them entertaining at the Ship Inn, Par, Victoria Gardens, Truro, Killacourt, Newquay and various carnivals.
