The all ladies charity fundraising brass band Boobs and Brass has announced plans to expand the band by forming an expansion to the band "up North".
Boobs and Brass was formed seven years when it performed what was to be a 'one off' concert, and no one could have envisaged the journey that has taken the remarkable 'pink ladies' on to achieve the phenomenal amount of £120,000 for charity. £105,000 of this has been donated to Breast Cancer Campaign, for funding research into helping those who suffer from this horrible disease.
Jane & Maggie commentated: "Some may have thought that this was just a 'novelty' band that would phase out after a while, but, unbelievably, quite the opposite has happened. After numerous requests, preliminary enquiries in the Yorkshire region alone have resulted in over eighty responses from ladies who want to be involved in the concept, but for whom travelling the long distance to Northamptonshire for rehearsals is not practical.
Therefore, the Management Team of “Boobs & Brass” are looking into the possibility of forming an 'extension' to the current set up, which would be based somewhere 'up north'. Several bands have offered the use of their facilities for rehearsal purposes, which would cut down the journey time considerably.
This idea is at an early stage presently, but if there is a possibility of it working, it can only add to the good work that has already been done by all the wonderful women – and men – that are currently involved. Let's not forget – men can also get breast cancer! We would like to thank every player, conductor, compere, arranger and supporter that has helped us to achieve what we have so far, and for being 'part of the cure'.
Further details will be announced as the plans for this extension progress.
