More news from Dunaskin Doon Band
Have you heard the news? Did you hear correctly? Oh yes you did! Dunaskin have just returned home from taking 2nd place in the 3rd Section of the 2014 National Brass Band Championships in Cheltenham.
It is a huge achievement for Dunaskin who are now the first Scottish band in 14 years to come home with such a result.
The band knew, only too well, they had areas where in practice were of better standard than we produced on stage but we will improve as we build our confidence and performance levels through such experiences as we continue our journey.
One thing I can assure you of is that we are hugely delighted with the result and it was certainly one heck of a celebration on the long journey home! Our success has been an emotional one but well received and enjoyed by all concerned.
It goes without saying we must say special thanks to all that were involved with the organisation, fundraising events and activities in the run up to the contest. Of course Dunaskin being directed by Gary Williams in his usual enthusiastic, motivational and extremely professional manner, brought out every last detail in the style and musical interpretation which enabled us to deliver such a credible performance. The band feels privileged to have such a role model and greatly appreciate all his efforts.
This was the final contest of 2014 for the band, and brings an end to a very successful year for Dunaskin Doon Band. Following a quiet spell throughout 2013 the band returned to the contesting platform at the Scottish Championships in March this year. At the Scottish Championships, held in Perth, the band achieved 2nd place in the 3rd section, gaining promotion to the 2nd section for next year (March 2015) whilst also receiving an invitation to represent Scotland at the National Championships in Cheltenham. Following on from this the band won best 3rd section band at the annual Land O’ Burns contest, as well as best percussion section of the day.
Our good form continued into the National Championships, hopefully it continues into our next contest which will be ‘Brass at the Guild’ held in Preston on Sunday 1st February.
Our Christmas Concert will be held in the Walker Hall, Troon on Sunday 14th December. Doors will open at 18:30, concert will commence at 19:00.
Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £5 for concessionaries, and are available from all band members, they are also for sale on our website (www.ddband.co.uk) or by phoning 0845 370 7877.
Come along and get yourself into the festive spirit! You will even get a mincemeat pie and a cup of tea!
