More news from Brackley District Band
Brackley & District Band are delighted to announce their most recent project which will involve working closely with Chris Long to develop some new repertoire specifically for the Band. Chris is a composer completing PhD studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and is also Director of Music and Performing Arts at Saint Augustine's School in Redditch. His most notable composition "O Lord, Remember" was written for the City of Birmingham Choir and the CBSO and received a British Composer Award. Chris has worked with many amateur instrumental and vocal groups, as well as working in education.
Chris’ research project looks at the relationship between composers and amateur instrumental and vocal ensembles in collaborative projects. (http://www.christopherlong.org.uk/2016/02/22/composing-for-amateurs-a-professional-opportunity/)
The Band will be working with Chris to create three short pieces over a 12 month period. The pieces will be new compositions taking into account the needs and ability of our players and the band members will have opportunity to have a creative input throughout the process.
Chris has recently dropped in to one of our rehearsals to introduce himself to the Band and to gain an appreciation of the band sounds. To kick the process off he has invited the band members to make suggestions as to themes or ideas that they might like to see in the new compositions and has also asked for suggestions as to instrumentation or other ideas so watch this space, there might be some exciting new sounds to come!
We hope that this exciting project will be an inspiring and fulfilling process, and will result in the Band having some great new music which we can take ownership of and be proud of.
If you would like to become involved and/or would like to join Brackley & District Band then please drop us a line (firstname.lastname@example.org) or give Nick Wilson a call on 07936589750.
