Dobcross Silver is delighted to welcome several new and returning players to the band.

Firstly, news of a home grown success story, as we welcome a member of our adult learner group Dobcross Brass Monkeys. Jane Nelson has graduated from this group to join us on 2nd Baritone. Jane is a great asset to the band and has quickly become a dedicated member of the senior band.

Brand new to the band is euphonium player Maggie Spencer. Maggie started playing at the age of 12 with Swinton & District Excelsior band and remained there until the age of 18 when she left to study Music at Keele University. Whilst at Keele Maggie helped set up the university band. Most recently Maggie has played in various positions with Kirkbymoorside Town band before moving to Manchester to study for her PGCE at the University of Huddersfield. We are thrilled to welcome her to Dobcross.

Recently returning to Dobcross is the Sutcliffe family. The family were last with us around 12 months ago and during their time away have helped out several bands but most notably played with Denton band for the majority of this year. Richard Sutcliffe has taken up the Solo Horn seat, wife Kara on Flugel Horn, son Keelan has joined the percussion team and the youngest member of the family Hollie-Mae (13) is now on 2nd cornet. The whole family has settled right back into the Dobcross team and are looking forward to the future with the band.

Also returning to the band full time is cornet player Liz Black. Liz has just spent 3 years at Lancaster University studying for her degree and playing with the university band but she has now returned home and back to Dobcross Silver.

The future looks positive for Dobcross as we seek to develop an established team in good time to prepare for the North West Regional Championship 2nd Section in March 2014. Following the arrival of new MD Tim Sidwell in July the band has seen a steady increase in numbers however we are still on the lookout for cornet players including a Principal. Please contact Chairman Andy Black on 07799 072 459 for an informal chat about the band. We rehearse in excellent facilities at Dobcross Band Club on Monday and Wednesday evenings 8pm to 10pm.
