Old Silkstone “Oom-pah” Band held their 4th Annual Oktoberfest concert at the new venue of The Fairway in Dodworth, Barnsley on Friday 24th October.

The evening was great fun, as always, with plenty of singing, some entertaining games and plenty of audience participation swaying and swinging their Stein’s full of beer!!

The band – in full Bavarian style costume played a variety of music including plenty of traditional Bavarian style waltzes and polka’s to sway along to, mixed with arrangements of fun and modern hits including Europop, The Kaiser Chiefs  and Loreen’s  winning entry from Eurovision 2012.

The second half was restarted by good friends of Silkstone band “The Frumptarn Guggen Band” who wowed the audience with their energetic and lively performance.

Proceedings were excellently led by Host and Frontman – Mike Lomas (Of The Huddersfield Marathon band fame – and as seen on ITV’s Suprise! Surprise!) who with his entertaining banter and occasionally dubious jokes led the evenings proceedings and whipped the audience up and encouraged their participation. Alongside Mike was guest conductor for the evening: Ian Walshaw (aka Hans Vondering) who is currently studying brass band conducting at the University of Hudderfield alongside Philp McCann.

The Band were delighted to see many friends and members from lots of local bands there for the evening, as well as some well travelled guests who came all the way from Ireland to join in with the band for the evening.

David O’Connor, a spokesperson for the band said “What a great night! Our thanks go to Mike and Ian for their help tonight in making it such a success, while the band is looking to fill their permanent conductor vacancy. It was great to see so many familiar and new faces at this new venue and we’d like to thank those players and members who helped out on the evening”

The band’s “Noel-Fest” Christmas event is being held on 18th December at the same venue. Please get in touch with the band for more details.

In the meantime, The Old Silkstone “Oom-pah” Band are finalising details for next year’s event, so if you were unlucky enough to miss this year, please watch the bands website, facebook page and of course 4Barsrest for further details....Ein Zwei, Drei.....ZUPPE!
