Its all change at AVSB this New Year. With the retirement, after many successful years, of Gordon Hartley-Bennet, the Alcester Victoria Silver Band is delighted to have secured the services of composer, musician and arranger Danny Price, as the band’s new Musicial Director.
Danny brings with him a wealth of experience gained from many years of musical performance in a range of instruments, with both local and internationally acclaimed brass and big bands. During the last dozen years, Danny has developed his skills in composition and arranging of music, culminating in many commissions for composing, and also arranging, pieces for well known bands, such as the Black Dyke Band. He has also composed ‘test’ pieces for national Brass Contests, both home and abroad. His portfolio now includes music for symphonic winds, choir and digital music for multimedia, radio and television.
Since its formation in an Alcester coffee house in 1897, the Alcester Victoria Silver Band has retained close links with the town of Alcester- regularly playing at town events, including the Court Leet Parade, the Remembrance Concert and the annual Street Market. The band also performs regularly at bandstands around Warwickshire and Worcestershire. This year will see the addition of at least two more concerts and entry into a local ‘Contest’ for Brass Bands. The band has a strong regular core membership, some newer, keen, young members, and is always on the look out for new recruits with enthusiasm and a brass instrument!
Next concert for the band will be on Saturday 22nd March, to welcome the spring with a mixture of popular pieces.
